The thirty-ninth Math Webinar in English took place on Thursday, August 15th, 2024 from 5 pm until 6 pm with Sabetta Matsumoto, Associate Professor in the School of Physics at Georgia Institute of Technology, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
In this thirty-ninth Math Webinar in English, Sabetta Matsumoto presented on “Knotty Knits: A Chat about Math and Crafts”. The speaker connected creative crafts with math research. Sabetta Matsumoto presented on curvature using pattern design, symmetries using quilt squares and flags, hyperbolic space using crochet, and knot theory and coding using knits. This virtual event was co-organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
