The Math Webinar in English with MoMath took place on Wednesday, November 13th, 2024 from 5 pm until 6 pm with Chaim Goodman-Strauss, Outreach Mathematician at MoMath in New York City, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
In this Math Webinar in English, Chaim Goodman-Strauss presented on “How the World Fits Together.” The speaker shared about the mathematical discovery that took place last year in which Dave Smith discovered a new geometric shape known as “The Hat” which tessellates the plane aperiodically. Chaim Goodman-Strauss described how he and mathematicians Craig Kaplan and Joseph Myers were involved with this great discovery. The speaker then presented on MoMath’s Rosenthal Prize for Innovation and Inspiration in Math Teaching and also showed the winners of MoMath’s Einstein Mad Hat Awards. This virtual event was co-organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) and the National Museum of Mathematics (MoMath) in New York City.
