The Webinar on Images, Colors and Matrices took place on Thursday, November 3rd, 2022 from 4 pm until 5 pm with Malena Español, Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Arizona State University, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
The invited speaker started the virtual event by explaining that we use images and videos, for example, in astronomy, in biology, in medical diagnostics and in autonomous vehicles. Malena Español then described how images and videos are saved in a computer and how this is related to matrices. The speaker also shared what symmetric matrices, Toeplitz matrices and circulating matrices are and highlighted the work done by Ingrid Daubechies to save a lot of memory.
