The twentieth Math Webinar in English took place on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022 from 5 pm until 6 pm with Michaela Epstein, Founder of the Maths Teacher Circles Australia, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
In this twentieth Math Webinar in English, Michaela Epstein presented on “The Power of Estimation.” The speaker defined estimation as an educated guess about something we don’t know, using information we have. Michaela Esptein then explained that estimation is a skill that you can develop, needs a meaningful context and helps to build understanding, sense-making, curiosity and confidence. The speaker also shared several recommendations for teachers: regularly encourage estimation, refer back to estimates and stay non-judgmental.
