The forty-seventh Math Webinar in English took place on Wednesday, May 7th, 2025 from 5 pm until 6 pm with Peter Arvanites, Professor of Mathematics at Rockland Community College, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
In this forty-seventh Math Webinar in English, Peter Arvanites presented on “Taking a Closer Look at Math Anxiety.” The speaker started the virtual event by mentioning the misconceptions that exist about mathematics and how mathematicians are described incorrectly in the movies. Peter Arvanites then explained recommendations of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) of the United States on how to treat math anxiety and shared several suggestions on this topic aimed at students and teachers. This virtual event was co-organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
