The Webinar on The Mathematics in the Batman Movies took place on Thursday, February 13th, 2025 from 5 pm until 6 pm, with Damian Gibaja, Professor of Mathematics at the Autonomous Popular University of the State of Puebla in Mexico, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
The invited speaker connected the Batman movies with game theory, which is the branch of mathematics that analizes games, the interaction of the players and the strategies in decision making. Damian Gibaja explained how chess is related to the social dilemmas that are described in the Batman movies and showed how the hero must predict the actions of the villain to save the innocent. The speaker also mentioned that even the director of the movies, Christopher Nolan, acknowledged that he used game theory to highlight the principle of good and evil.
