The Webinar on Curiosities that Doves Teach Us took place on Wednesday, April 2nd, 2025 from 5 pm until 6 pm, with Matilde Lalin, Professor of the Mathematics and Statistics Department at the University of Montreal in Canada, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
The invited speaker started the virtual event with a problem on doves that introduced the Dirichlet Principle. Matilde Lalin then described a problem on colored socks, a problem on birthdays of a group of people, a problem on the number of hairs on the heads of Panama City residents and a problem on numbers around a circle. The speaker ended the virtual event by sharing three surprising results and a curious problem on handshakes in a couples party.
