The Webinar on Tessellations, Triangles and a Rebellious Algorithm took place on Thursday, October 24th, 2024 from 5 pm until 6 pm, with Constanza Del Campo, Adjunct Professor at the Math Department of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and Organizer of the Math Club of the Department, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
The invited speaker started the virtual event by explaining what a tessellation is and showing several examples of tessellations in different cultures. Constanza Del Campo then described what periodic and aperiodic tessellations are and highlighted Penrose tilings. The speaker also mentioned that in 2023 a mathematical discovery took place of a new geometric shape called “The Hat” that tessellates the plane aperiodically.
