The Webinar on Applications of the Pythagorean Theorem in Daily Life took place on Thursday, September 8th, 2022 from 4 pm until 5 pm with Carmen Martinez Adame, Professor of Mathematics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
The speaker explained what the Pythagorean Theorem is and how this result came to be. Carmen Martinez Adame then described how the Pythagorean Theorem is used in architecture, in construction, in the house, in topography, in ballistics, in navigation, in seismography, in art, among other applications. The speaker also shared how this theorem helps us calculate distances, like for example: how far away is the horizon when we are in the beach? This virtual event was co-organized with the Mexican Mathematical Society (SMM).
