The thirty-seventh Virtual Encounter with Outstanding Mathematicians took place on Thursday, August 25th, 2022 from 4 pm until 5 pm. Diana Quintana Sanchez, Professor of Mathematics at the National University of Piura in Peru, was our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
On this thirty-seventh Encounter, Diana Quintana Sanchez shared anecdotes of her personal life and her professional journey as a female mathematician. The speaker also presented on “String Art and Mathematics.” In this virtual event, Diana Quintana Sanchez described the materials required to make string art: trupan wood of 12 mm of thickness and 25 cm of length and width, colored embroidery threads, corduroy cloth in black to cover the trupan, silicone or engraver to cover the trupan with the cloth, wood nails of 1 inch, one sheet of paper, a pencil, a ruler and a compass.
