Asbtract: In this webinar, the speaker will share with us some fun new math puzzles about making networks out of geometric shapes like rectangles and triangles. If we have an arrangement of rectangles, we can keep track of which rectangles overlap with a network called an intersection graph. Or, we can keep track of which rectangles can see each other with a network called a visibility graph. The tricky part is working backwards: starting with the network and figuring out where the rectangles should go! Josh Laison has explored many of these puzzles with student research groups at his university. One amazing thing about these problems is how many of them are unexplored, leading us to new questions nobody has asked before. We hope to share our excitement with you about the beautiful patterns we’ve found, and keep finding, in everyday geometric objects, and give you a chance to discover some yourself.
