Abstract: Discover how the art of origami can unlock new pathways to mathematical understanding and foster critical visuospatial skills. Dr. Myers will share insights from Project Mathigami and its evolution into the NSF-funded VisMO curriculum, which uses origami to teach visuospatial skills and spatial vocabulary to upper elementary students. In this webinar, participants will explore how these lessons—featuring animation videos, paper folding, and interactive activities—can inspire creativity, reduce math anxiety, and improve mathematical understanding. Experience the “3-i process” (Identify, Imagine, Investigate), designed to develop spatial reasoning through paper play, and uncover the power of origami to make mathematics accessible, meaningful, and joyful for learners of all ages.
