The Webinar on Shorter Trips with Mathematics took place on Thursday, February 8th, 2024 from 5 pm until 6 pm, with Yasmin Rios Solis, Professor of Mathematics at the Engineering and Science School of the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
The invited speaker started the virtual event by explaining what the problem of the travelling salesman is and what is known so far about this algorithmic problem that is focused on optimization. Yasmin Rios Solis also shared how this math problem is related to urban transportation planning, agriculture, manufacture, among other applications. The speaker also highlighted the importance of knowledge in mathematics and programming to solve everyday situations. This virtual event was co-organized with the Mexican Mathematical Society (SMM).
