The twenty-sixth Math Webinar in English took place on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023 from 5 pm until 6 pm with Rodi Steinig, the Founding Director of the Math Renaissance Math Circle, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
In this twenty-sixth Math Webinar in English, Rodi Steinig presented on “The Emotional Experience of Math”. The speaker explained why math evokes strong emotions in people. In this virtual event, participants played “Never Have I Ever” to calculate our own Emotional Mathematics Experiences (EMEs) score. Rodi Steinig then shared findings and recommendations from her own observations and experiences and from some writings of experts in human rights, emotional development, education and mathematics instruction. This virtual event was co-organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
