The Webinar on Mathemagics: A Journey from Outreach to Research took place on Thursday, October 6th, 2022 from 4 pm until 5 pm with the mathemagician Sergio Fernandez from Colombia as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
The invited speaker surprised the audience with three magic tricks with playing cards. Sergio Fernandez explained the concept of a permutation and described bicolored permutations and signed permutations. The speaker also defined Hummer’s Principle and shared how magic and outreach guided him towards math research.
