The sixteenth Math Webinar in English took place on Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 from 5 pm until 6 pm with Karl Schaffer, dancer/choreographer and mathematician who has co-directed the Dr. Schaffer and Mr. Stern Dance Ensemble with Erik Stern since 1987, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
In this sixteenth Math Webinar in English, Karl Schaffer presented on “Kinesthetic Conundrums.” The speaker described rotations of the hands, arms, fingers and feet and showed the dance with paper. Karl Schaffer explained the belt puzzle and finger geometry. The speaker also presented rhythmic alternations and swirling motions and mentioned Scott Kim and Dave Masunaga. This virtual event was co-organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
