The Webinar on Cooking with Mathematics took place on Friday, May 21st, 2021 from 12 pm until 1 pm, with Anabel Forte, member of the Spanish Mathematical Royal Society (RSME), as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
The invited speaker started the virtual event by explaining what an algorithm is by using a recipe to cook a mushroom risotto. Anabel Forte then mentioned several examples of the use of statistics in our daily lives, like in the prediction of the weather, in the management of fishing resources and in the evolution of a breast cancer patient. The speaker also highlighted the importance of graphs when presenting the news, such as data on the pandemic. This virtual event was co-organized with the Spanish Mathematical Royal Society (RSME).
