Webinar on Playing with Paradoxes: Surprises and Disillusions

The Webinar on Playing with Paradoxes: Surprises and Disillusions took place on Thursday, March 12th, 2026 from 5 pm until 6 pm, with Dr. Marta Macho-Stadler, Professor of Mathematics at the University of the Basque Country in Spain, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.

The speaker started the virtual event by explaining what a paradox is and showing several examples of paradoxes that we can find all around us and that surprise us because they contradict what seems obvious to us at first glance. Dr. Marta Macho-Stadler then described how paradoxes are a source of fun but also a magnificent source of reflection and learning that in many cases make us think. The speaker mentioned multiple examples of different types of paradoxes, including the Infinite Hotel, Russell’s Paradox, Curry’s Paradox, anamorphosis and many more.
