Webinar on The Hidden Geometry of Plants

The Webinar on The Hidden Geometry of Plants took place on Thursday, March 17th, 2022 from 4 pm until 5 pm, with the math communicator Antonio Perez Sanz from Spain, as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.

The speaker explained that plants know about maximums and minimums, about saving, about effectiveness, about economy, about optimization, about competing for space and about defending from aggressions. Antonio Perez Sanz shared that the genetic codes of the plants are based on the principle of minimum action, that the axial, central or rotational symmetries and self similarity are abundant in the plant environment, and that the iteration of simple instructions make many specimens of plants look like fractal structures. The speaker also used GeoGebra and Winplot to show several demonstrations.
