The Webinar on The Mathematics Behind Your Neighborhood took place on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026 from 5 pm until 6 pm, with the educator Emilia Del Busto, President of the Peruvian Association on Mathematical Education Research (APINEMA), as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
The speaker showed several concrete examples of plazas on a global scale in the shape of a triangle, square, pentagon, hexagon, octagon and circle. Emilia Del Busto also explained the geometry of gardens, road intersections, semicircular arches, catenaries, pavements, stairs, ramps, among others. The speaker highlighted that we do not have to travel to see mathematics, we only need to look while walking. This virtual event was co-organized with the Peruvian Association on Mathematical Education Research (APINEMA).
