Abstract: Tangrams are a fun, effective, hands-on tool for teaching geometry skills for all levels from preschoolers to high schoolers. Working with tangrams makes abstract concepts visual, concrete, and engaging for students. In this webinar, our invited speaker will share the picture book The Quest for a Tangram Dragon, a story that introduces children to tangrams, which won the 2025 Mathical Book Prize for Young Readers, Grades K-2. Then we will delve into how tangrams can be used to teach geometry skills from exploring properties of basic shapes to presenting fractions, percentages, area, perimeter, and even the Pythagorean theorem.
