The nineteenth Math Webinar in English took place on Wednesday, October 5th, 2022 from 5 pm until 6 pm with Edward Aboufadel, Professor of Mathematics at Grand Valley State University and Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), as our invited speaker. This virtual event was free and open to the general public.
In this nineteenth Math Webinar in English, Edward Aboufadel presented on “A Mathematician Wanders into a Sportsbook.” The speaker started the virtual event by explaining how sports bets work and showed several examples with different scenarios. Edward Aboufadel described how we can use mathematics to study the question of guaranteed payouts from free bets that are offered. This virtual event was co-organized by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA).
